24hr Record

On the 16th-17th November 2024, I will be making at attempt at the Guinness and IUF 24hr Unicycle World Record, as well as the 12hr Guinness World Record. This is the greatest distance covered by a unicycle in 24hrs and 12hrs, respectively.

Back in 2005, I set the 24hr Unicycle World Record at the Basin Reserve Cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand, riding a total distance of 378.7km. It is almost 20yrs since I set my original world record, which was superseded by Sam Wakeling from the UK in 2007, who set a new distance of 453.8km.

I will be attempting the record on a 390m oval concrete track at Newlands Intermediate, my old school! Thanks to everyone who has supported me in this challenge so far, in particular the staff and students at Newlands Intermediate for allowing me the use of the track; and Brett and Ollie from Cuttriss surveyors who came out to measure and certify the track distance.

Volunteers needed

If you are local and able to help as support crew, I would be most grateful. Ideally you would be there for a 6hr period, to keep me watered, fed, motivated and to fix any issues with the unicycle or the body. Contact me via the website email above.

Otherwise, just turn up and sign the guestbook to say you witnessed the attempt (needed for Guinness Certification).

Here is the history of unicycle time trial records on Wikipedia and the current list held by the IUF.
